Vanishing Points at Burning Man 2023

by Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics

“Vanishing Points,” the debut of Poetic Kinetics‘ “Wind Dancer Series,” made an indelible mark at Burning Man 2023, captivating the hearts and imaginations of those who experienced it.

Amidst the vastness of Burning Man, “Vanishing Points” rose from the desert floor to break the horizon in a silent dance with nature. The installation, consisting of tapering carbon fiber poles that soared to 96 feet, moved in graceful choreography with the shifting desert winds to create an immersive and ever-changing experience.

“Vanishing Points” offered a tranquil respite from the exhilarating energy of Burning Man, inviting visitors to contemplate the delicate interplay between humanity and nature. Within the embrace of this colossal, grass-like installation, individuals were confronted with their own scale, prompting a profound shift in both perspective and self-perception. The enveloping artwork served to highlight our small yet significant place within the broader ecosystem. It stood as a vivid reminder of our capacity to shape our environment, while simultaneously, a humbling acknowledgment of our modest place within it.

This installation, now a celebrated memory of Burning Man 2023, was more than an artistic achievement; it was an immersive experience where spectators didn’t just see an artwork—they felt it, connected with it, and marveled at the seamless fusion of human creativity and the boundless, untamed beauty of nature.

Special thanks to the Anchorage Museum for helping us bring Vanishing Points to Burning Man.

Art that doesn’t just stand; it resonates,

it breathes, it dances.
