In the face of the pandemic and our inability to travel, we created a technical solution that allowed us to remotely map the garden and design an artwork that seamlessly installed into the immensely complicated landscape.
Dream Flora was a gigantic, immersive aerial art installation that floated through the treetops at Atlanta’s Botanical Garden. Composed of over 78,000 colorful nylon streamers, this 12,500-square-foot art piece created a fanciful, almost lyrical expression that playfully wound through the lush green tree canopy leading guests through Storza Woods to experience the garden in a fresh, unexpected way.
The purpose of this kinetic installation came about at a time when the world was just waking up again out of its pandemic-ensured slumber. Atlanta Botanical Garden and Poetic Kinetics felt a cohesive need to safely bring people together after the season of hardship brought about by COVID-19. An outdoor, peaceful space like the garden adorned with joyful, expressive colors was the perfect solution to bring whimsy and vitality back into the local landscape.
Dream Flora exceeded the Garden’s and the public’s expectations with flying colors, surpassing pre-pandemic benchmarks with the highest numbers of attendance the Garden had ever seen.
