Designed to move very slowly it was filmed

played out on the ground all

The shell was parametrically modeled
in a computer. From these 3d files
the internal structure was cut out
of 83 sheets of plywood and skinned
with 24 pieces of corrugated plastic
and held together with 5000 fasteners.

Helix Poeticus – Also Known as Coachella Snail

by: Poetic Kinetics

One of the breakout stars of this year’s Coachella (2013) had nothing to do with the musical acts. The carefree, slow-going Helix Poeticus – affectionately dubbed Coachella Snail – was perhaps one of the most photographed features from the festival.

Built on a variable reach forklift, this 80′ long x 30′ tall silver-skinned mollusk inched it’s way across the 2014 Coachella Polo fields to make fast friends with festival-goers.

“If you want to go fast,

go alone.

If you want to go far,

go together “
